Sunday is typically a day of rest, but not for Pear Tree SNT, with another busy day patrolling Normanton and Rosehill. Whilst most people might be having a lie in, ready for the England game tonight, Pear Tree constables were out early morning searching for a wanted person. After a few address checks and areas he may frequent, they sighted him later on. He ran from them but was arrested after the officers gave chase. The male, in his 40's, was arrested for 2 public order offences and will likely miss the match whilst he's in custody.
Whilst on the same street Officers made enquiries regarding a cannabis grow. A utility company arrived to make sure the building was safe, as many of the growers create substantial damage and fire risks by diverting and abstracting electricity. Once this was done, entry was gained to discover an old cannabis grow, that had potentially been harvested recently. The door was boarded up. Enquiries are ongoing. Many private landlords should be wary of taking cash in hand payments for their properties; this is often the case with cannabis grows- the landlord is happy that payments are being made regularly, but once the growers have harvested, been discovered or leave they are left with the bill to repair, make safe and clean up their property, which very often runs in to thousands, if not tens of thousands of pounds.
The afternoon bought missing person searches: One for an individual from a neighbouring force who had gone missing and was at risk. His vehicle was hitting ANPR cameras across the city but had gone to ground in Normanton. Another for a 4 year old which had escaped from a garden around half an hour prior. Fortunately when the call was sounded we were in the area within minutes, and the child was found within 8 minutes of officers being deployed Please click here to complete the survey . It was heart-warming to see the local community turn out in droves; from neighbours, to passers-by and shop keepers, to assist in finding the child and reuniting with parents so swiftly.
